Hoth: Blood and Ice

A patrol the previous day had found the herd of tauntaun and it was decided that just in case they send a team to try and round up the creatures as mounts and beasts of burden. They are hardy and can survive the cold with ease. It will mean that they need to be stored somewhere but they can cross that bridge when they come to it as the Hydroponics area was now coming online.

But for now they had limited time as a storm system was moving into the area.

OOC: This Challenge will use the following skills Athletics, Charm, Coercion, Cool, Discipline, Stealth, Survival, and Xenology.

Shyyyo knew the coldness of the wastes without transportation… and had committed himself to being helpful to ensuring the base had what it needed.

A tauntaun may be just what he would need to return to the cave when the time was right… So he came with the group of trainers to assure they could get them in before the storms hit.

Luth had been part of the patrol to find them, so she took the lead guiding those who decided to help to the herd.

Galen had heard about the creatures the patrol had found and was very interested. He had had little doubt that Hoth had more wildlife than most would expect. But, he was eager to see each new discovery.

"Ain't no cute li'l penguins, but might prove a scooch more useful t' the settlement," Garth bantered with Galen as he approached.

"You ready for some more wrangling partner?" Galen grinned.

Shyyyo followed Luth’s lead to the herd’s location. And huddled up with the others to plan their next move…

“I will approach the herd and calm their emotions. Then you all should approach cautiously and help direct them back in the direction of the base… Gather any information we can on the creatures and prepare them for domestication…. Sound like a plan?”

"They look a li'l more formidable than the last lot. But if ah c'n ride a thranta, ah'm sure ah c'n handle one o' these."

[Luth Khalan]

Something about the two that joined them looked a little familiar... Something niggling at the back of her mind. She'd need a bit to remember.

"Sounds like a plan. I can skirt around them, make sure we don't have any stragglers run off." She glanced over toward the animals. "... Yeah, they're probably no problem compared to a thranta."

[Garth Thul]

"Least if'n we fall of these it's prob'ly less likely t' be fatal than a thousan' foot drop." Garth joked with the vaguely familiar woman.

Shyyyo started off towards the herd while the other three hung back and conversed.

The Force was strong with this mysterious masked man... and he had tamed far more tumultuous souls than these gentle creatures.

After gaining a sense of most of the herd he motioned for the others to approach.

"It will be a bit like the thranta." Galen nodded as they began to move closer. "We want to guide them, but keep them calm."

Maybe it was the energies swirling around Syl, or the chaotic nature of the beasts, but Garth had to impose his will quite forcefully on one of the beasts as he manoeuvred into position.

As the others got into position to keep the herd together, Galen moved to the front. There, he found one of the larger animals and slowly approached it.

"It's alright. I'm a friend." he said calmly, drawing closer. He patted the creature affectionally.. it wasn't a thranta. It wasn't domesticated. But, it seemed to understand. When the herd began to move, it would lead the way.

It would be an exciting ride.

Luth moved silently among the creatures without disturbing them, circling the herd to guide back stragglers or touching one or two to send them in the right direction. Before they knew it, the Tauntauns were moving in the right direction.

As the herd moved out, Galen climbed onto the one he'd chosen. It resisted,, trying g to shake the Paladin off. But, it calmed quickly, deciding the herd was more important.

"Good job everyone.!"

[Garth Thul]

From his position, being showered with crunchy ice shards from the outliers, Garth yelled to be heard.
"Seems lahk..they used t' takin orders."

He delivers a swift slap to one's flank to keep it moving in the right direction.

"Y'all don' think they belonged t' anyone do ya?"

[Luth Khalan]

"Yeah! Great job, everyone!"

"Hmm... Hard to tell," she replied with a shrug. Something was definitely nagging at her mind now. Then it hit. The associated memory made her glad for the mask for a variety of reasons.

Her blank mask turned toward Garth. "You... didn't take a dance lesson on Bankor, did you?"

"Ain't many from those days still floatin' round out here, an ah'd know Azura under tha' mask. Y' ain't Tethys an' unless Z's undergone some major work..." Garth's brain is going into overdrive.

"Miss Khalan?"

"That's me," she agreed with a small, sad chuckle. "I'd take off my helmet to prove it, but my face would freeze off out here."

"If ah'm rememberin' right though, that smile's lit a million fires in hearts 'cross the galaxy. Don't think th' icy winds of Hoth 're in fer a fair fight."

Then a weird thought strikes Garth. "Ah don' recall seein' ya on Valiant though. Trailing b'hind in yer own ship?"

The tauntauns think this group are cool dudes and dudettes or Duders, they decide to join the cause.

Shyyyo remained silent for now. He spent his time walking among the tauntauns, gently soothing their fears and help guiding them back to the base.

"If ah'm rememberin' right though, that smile's lit a million fires in hearts 'cross the galaxy. Don't think th' icy winds of Hoth 're in fer a fair fight."

Then a weird thought strikes Garth. "Ah don' recall seein' ya on Valiant though. Trailing b'hind in yer own ship?"

"... I'm surprised you didn't hear," she admitted. "But I guess it's not that surprising. I arrived on the Empress' Spear."

"Now I can't stop picturing Z dressed like that." Galen groaned. "There's a lot of old faces here. Some who I haven't seen since my days on Nar Shadda."
