Hoth: Blood and Ice

[Jan Melmoar]

The Bottom Line's bridge is quiet and dark, Jan having shooed the last of the skeleton crew away before taking her place on the captain's chair. The director broods for a few moments, enjoying the solitude as she sips from a crystal wine glass. So much to do, and never enough time. Finally she jabs a finger down into the console in the chairs arm as a soft hum fills the room.

"Miss Calculation."
Jan sinks back into the chair, her eyes gleaming faintly as she swirls her drink around slowly, eyes fixed on the ship's communications array.

[Dapper Dog]

A holo appears with a jumbled image, it looks like static or error but it speaks, "Ms. Melmoar, enjoying Hoth?"

[Jan Melmoar]

"I've seen worse, I once spent a month on Nal Hutta."
Another slow sip.
"But I doubt I'll be coming back for a holiday any time soon. The vast swathes of nothing seem to be broken up only by pirates, extortionists and 50 of the galaxy's highest ranking nobles. I suppose they do provide excellent cover though."

She hits a few more keys on the console, checking the line is secure.

"Obviously time is limited and we can only account for so many variables. I trust you're still able to hold up your end of the plan?"

[Dapper Dog]

"Yes. Does this mean we are proceeding forward?" the garbled holo image responded, with that same self important sultry voice.

[Jan Melmoar]

Jan lets the pause hang for a few long moments before responding.

"I believe we are. What's phase one?"

[Dapper Dog]

"For now you wait, I am gathering assets. Phase two will begin once assets are in play, do you have access to Junktown?" the holo responded.

[Jan Melmoar]

Jan shrugs, not particularly surprised.
"I can't imagine anyone has the interest or ability to stop me going there."

[Dapper Dog]

"Well you don't lack for confidence, at least. When you do go, make friends with Beezlediz, he should know more about the assets in the field," the holo responded.

[Jan Melmoar]

"Confidence is free, but I charge for the rest. This...Beezlediz, he'll know you by name?"

[Dapper Dog]

"Yes. As long as you execute the task you will earn your cut," the holo responded.

[Jan Melmoar]

"Well then, I suppose that will be all."
Jan's finger hovers over the button before she pauses.
"Oh darling, one last thing."

[Dapper Dog]

"I do not appreciate the affectation, continue?" the holo responded.

[Jan Melmoar]

"You screw me on this, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a reckoning that will shudder you."
Jan smiles sweetly before her finger comes down, terminating the call.

Most of her instincts told her the whole deal was suspicious, too good to be true, downright suicidal. And yet...
She mouths the word, the sound clear in the ship's stillness "Billions". Oh yes, she did like the sound of that.

Junktown it was.
