House Lanar [Epilogue]

Post by Riss »

Countess Riss Lanar leaves Hoth, with her fair share of the looted credits from the White Maw assured of both the stability of her family and the likely eventual failure of the White Maw. Offering Veral an invitation to come to the Lanar holdings on Alderaan when his mission is finally complete she parts ways with him with that reminder that she'll always be a choice he can make instead. In the convening years Riss loses more friends and family than she cares to, but she does take some solace in knowing that her blood- and those she feels responsible for will be secured of their safety. Meiss continues to heal from the trauma of losing the rest of her family, becoming a woman of remarkable talent with the violin. Bo, of course, always is given his freedom to walk his own path but will always find a warm home back on Alderaan for him. Choosing the path of someone who might kindle some hope for a better future she does not involve herself in the coming conflicts.

Under her guidance, House Lanar continues to grow. In time she is joined by a Count-consort Veral, or any other name he may elect to take, and with him she grows a family of her own that will ensure the Lanar Family remains a steadfast part of Alderaanian society as it will become in the coming years. Riss makes what efforts she can to ease the suffering of those around her, and those she has access to help through both diplomatic and financial means. With the White Maw's credits to fund the Lanar Family their ability and strength to do so flourishes. Without taking an active part in the war, House Lanar is granted some reprieve from the war and is left untouched by the Eternal Empire in any of their struggles. Judgement would naturally fall upon her house in such a trying time, but Riss always maintains a strong stance that she will always do all she can for those under her roof and leaving the rest to mystery.

Being a woman brought up in a large family herself she does mother a fair number of children over the years. Eventually having five in total spread out over both the years occupying the end of the war, and continuing after. Their names in order of birth, Katarzyna, Bryson, Neas, Alten, and youngest darling Cynella. Much of the harder duties of parenting outside of being an appropriate guiding focus being handled by the many services afforded a noble such as herself. Riss' children are brought up by a mother who believes in personal freedom strongest, and a father who holds duty firmly in his heart, which grants her children a fair amount of possibility for success. Though she doesn't force her children into anything they do not agree to, she does do what work she can to endear her children to those of the Thul so that the agreement may one day be maintained.

Trial and tribulation of years will grow Riss into a harder, stauncher, personality. A woman with years of experience and wisdom who does not mark the years as a hero to many, but may be everything to her few. Regretting that she could not be there more for friends in their time of strife when they charged against the forces of Zakuul, but reassured in the presence of her family who are able to grow into men and women that will make their own marks on the galaxy. Riss Lanar herself shoulders any amount of hate her family will almost certainly receive over the years but never lose her sense of conviction in the sense behind her decision all those years ago.

It is not the most heroic ending, but Riss was never a hero- merely a woman trying to live a good life, and do her best.
