This seems familiar somehow [D1, MM-MA]

Well, damn it. The crew was dead; biting it in the crash. Nothing she could do for them now. Not really much of *anything* she could do, for that matter, other than to try and make it to that beacon. Not without her *stuff* though. She might need it, after all! Pulling on her thermal cloak first, then putting on her heavy duty backpack, she started loading up everything she could carry, then followed up by loading as much of the rest as she could fit on her bike.

The good old T-something or another Joben.

It probably wasn't rated for this planet's weather, but... well... wasn't like she had much choice, did she?

Half an hour later she made it to the top of a ridge, pretty sure she was getting close to the source of the beacon. Pulling out her infrabinoculars, she could only get an image for a short while before the cold rendered it inoperable. Damnit, she'd just gotten it too! Hopefully she'd be able to fix it later, but for now it made her attempts to find her way back rather more difficult.

A few hours later she was attempting to use her cam droid for recon instead, still lost as she was... but it too started to freeze up, and rather than risk losing it completely she had it return to her before its servos would become inoperable and it'd get even more lost out here than she was.

All of this definitely was reminding her of Korriban again though. That first day, being dropped in the middle of the desert. She had a lot less stuff back then, but she'd gotten just as lost.

Early Afternoon

As she travels she is pretty sure something is tracking her, she catches shapes in the blizzard... large ones.

That was all she needed. Predator animals? Possibly; she likely wasn't able to go at top speed on her speeder, and some animals were faster than others. Though through the blizzard, she couldn't exactly be sure, could she? Alternatively, it could be the pirates. If that was the case, then leading them back to where she hoped the others were wasn't the best of ideas. No way to know how badly off everyone else was. They might not survive an attack.

So, she slowed down a little. Enough to let these shapes begin to catch up. Hopefully she could get a peek at them, see what she was dealing with before making a decision on whether to engage or try to escape.

Alas, she couldn't see clearly in this damned storm.

Hard Perception, 1 setback ignored due to blade of Woe: 1eP+1eA+3eD+1eS 1 failure, 1 threat, 1 Triumph

1 strain taken (8 total), Triumph for... something? GM's choice as to what it does.

Well she couldn’t see them not at first but one came into view. It stood nearly three meters in height, white fur, bipedal with large horns and a loud roar. It would have had her if not blaster fire coming from the snow drift.

The creatures scattered quickly only to be replaced by at least three Republic soldiers in cold weather gear.

OOC: Triumph used.

Huh; she certainly hadn't expected the blaster fire. The creatures might've posed a bit a of a challenge even if she was confident she might've taken them. But better that both they and her would avoid finding out. She was similarly grateful that the soldiers turned out to be with the Republic as opposed to the pirates.

"Thanks! You guys come down in the escape pods?" She asked them, raising her voice to make it over the sound of the blizzard. "I got some supplies if you need them, unless... you already made it to the beacon and are scouting for other survivors now?"

One shouted, “They won’t stay away long, yeah came down in a pod, we were actually tracking another pod not far from here. Then heading to the beacon. We need to get moving.”

"Sure thing. Only got the one speeder, but it's not gonna be able to go very fast in this weather anyway. If any of you are injured, they can take the speeder and get off those feet for a bit. If those creatures come back, well, I'm sure between the four of us we can manage to fend them off if need be. Let's go find that other pod then."

Mid Afternoon

They find the life pod and the sealed hatch has been ripped open and there is what looks like burn marks, could be from a lightsaber, trying to get in. Inside are two dead Republic soldiers.

Cut to pieces by the same weapon you surmise.

"Sith," she hissed, "Here? Now?"

Granted, it could've been a fusion cutter or something as well... but no. Something told her it had to be the Sith who did this.

She kneeled down, trying to determine if there was anything else to be discerned. It was probably just a typical display of petty Sith malice, but it was possible there was some deeper purpose to it to be discerned. Or perhaps something they left behind, some trace that could help them identify or track them.

"Any of you good at spotting tracks or the like?" she asked as her eyes were focused on the inside of the pod.

"So it was a trap, bet the Sith are working with the pirates," said the woman she had learned was named Kassi, the leader of this squad.

OOC: Perception check at Hard plus two setback from weather. One has Perception at 3 and Cunning 2.

NPC soldier rolling:

Perception 3/Cunning 2, Hard, setbacks: 2eP+1eA+3eD+2eS 2 successes, 4 threat
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

(Not sure how threat works if it's an npc rolling, up for GM use I guess!)

A private looks over the scene and then inspects the pod before walking a few steps and then slips and falls down in a heap in the blizzard and snow. Their arm is twisted but more importantly she finds another life pod but this one does not look Republic and there seem to be blaster bolt markings all across the exterior.

Kassi rushed down to help the poor private.

She came over to help as well, only to see the other life pod. Not a Republic one?

"Hey, you okay?" She asked the soldier, though seeing Kassi was already helping them, she instead focused on the pod instead. Trying to see if it had been opened.

The woman can stand but her arm will be useless until she can get actual medical attention and the shapes are starting to come back. The sealed hatch slides open revealing someone inside with a blaster burn mark in their heavy clothes.

A woman and a lightsaber is held in her hand. Her eyes fly open and she knocks the group back with the Force.

OOC: Discipline check at Hard, flipping Destiny to upgrade plus two setback for the blizzard.

"Easy th--"

Layne gets knocked back; surprised by the sudden outburst.

Discipline hard, DD upgrade, 2 setback (1 ignored by blade of woe): 1eP+2eA+1eC+2eD+1eS 1 failure, 1 advantage

[Advantage for some minor benefit? Otherwise heal strain I guess]

“Kriff more Republic mongrels… you stand before a Sith,” she said with a pained expression.

“Come at me… preferably one at a time…”

Perhaps her pride had been hurt a *little* by being knocked back like that, but she recovered pretty quickly; hand ready to go for her lightsaber, but holding off for now. Looked like the girl wasn't in the best condition to fight; and those creatures might be coming back too. Real mess of a situation.

"Yeah look, I'm sure you think that's supposed to impress me," she said taking a step closer, "But I used to be a sith myself."

It might not even seem like a stretch to her; given that Layne exuded *danger* even without trying to; and right now she was definitely laying it on a little, with the intent of making the girl realize she was outmatched and that fighting under these conditions was a foolish thing to do.

"Besides, it looks like we're about to have company that doesn't care about political affiliation, so how about we just you know... *not* do this right now?"

The roars made the woman nod and prompt a montage of escaping the creatures...

[screen wipe]

The group arrives at Echo Base and the creatures have stopped given chase...
