Hoth: Blood and Ice

[Breela Po]

"First rule, keep your cool. Second rule, punch that fool." Breela shouts over the throng of soldiers and militia engaging in cross-training. "Often the first to strike, wins the fight. You! Tighten your guard or eat your teeth! That's good, keep it up." She watches over the small bouts with a far off look.


"Hey mom, can I join yet?


It takes a moment to register Z's question. "Oh, I'm afraid you're not quite there yet sweetheart, but if you want to hang out with me you can."

[Aphr Ahaya]

Aphr had heard the shouting as she had returned. Normally she would approach to find out what was going on...and this time was no different. She entered the room quietly, watching from the side before chuckling as Breela tells a smaller Farhgul not to join in.

"Let her join, she might show them a thing or two" Aphr said with a grin. Even with the base being warmer, she was still wearing her thermal cloak. Not warm enough for the little Twi'lek

She looks around for the voice then waves when she finds it. "Hey Aphr! Wanna join in the fun? You mind learn a thing or two."

While Breela's back is turned one of the soldiers winks at Z and motions for her to come train with them. Z, bored out of her mind, does just that.

Aphr gave the woman a small wave.

"Hey. I'm not much of a fighter and I suspect they'll be shooting rather than punching. More of a be in the background and use a saber if I need to kinda Twi'lek. What do I need to do?"

"Hey now! The point of CQC is to teach soldiers and civilians not to freeze when they're outside their comfort zone." She waves you over, "Take these guys for instance." She points to two soldiers grappling on the ground. "Say their guns get knocked down. Or someone tries to neutralize them from behind but fails. All they got is their fists in a mad fight to survive. Going to the ground is probably the best way to fight 1v1, and most don't know what to do when they are locked into a grapple match."

She points to another pair. "These two are practicing how to avoid or disarm an opponent using vibroweapons. Not easy to do, but a good thing to practice if one gets in close and destroys your firearm." She points over at... "Stangit Z!" ...her daughter and a cocky looking republic specialist. "Nffghh, these two are working on giving me an ulcer practicing vibroknife disarms." Breela shows Z the correct foot work a few times before encouraging them to resume.

She massages a headache, "You and I could just do some free training if you want. In an hour I'm going to create a circle and force them to fight two opponents at a time. Three or more if they're any good."

Aphr nodded, it made sense really.

"So it's a confidence boost when you're overwhelmed? That's sensible. You certainly don't lack for confidence Bree! Although..>"

She peered over at the young one.

"Recruitment does seem to have started young" she laughed "she kinda reminds me how I was when I was that young. Wanting to get into it and learn first hand. I didn't have a choice really, but you should encourage it."

She looked back at the group.

"So they're also gonna fight? How fun!"

"It really kinda is a confidence boost sadly. When the metal meets the meat, you've either got it on an instinctual level or you don't."

She smiles at the complement, "I've just spent most of my life at war. I speak mostly from experience now."

She follows your gaze to Z and smiles. "Zan'ja is now late into puberty. So it goes without saying she's after more than lessons." Breela rolls her eyes, "I missed so much time with her. Now because I'm scared for her safety I sometimes fear I'm smothering her." She exhales, "I'll let her have this."

"That's the dream." She says about them fighting, "I'm hoping they all are getting along, I've been trying to counteract the fears and morale loss that continues to sweep the base. Sadly not enough ever join us. Even after two weeks of running this."

"What type of saber do you use? Double, shoto, single standard length?"

[Aphr Ahaya]

"There are some things you can't prepare for, you just have to face them and believe in your actions" Aphr offered, nodding "with guidance they can push past their fears for sure, but nothing prepares you for the real thing. Well, nothing like experiencing it for real."

She nodded about the young girl.

"Yeah, pretty much my age when I was thrust into this world. At least she has a better guide, I didn't have a guide. As for my saber, closer to a shoto. Small hands" she held her hands up "so a smaller saber suits me."

Breela grins, "That was mine as well, a guard shoto. Haven't pulled it out in years mind you. For Jedi it's kind of a status thing. But I just never had any use for it you know? I figured a lightsaber can be broken and become useless so I never trained with it." She stretches her arms, legs, and wrists. "But even with a broken arm a martial artist can persevere and still win."

"Oh, I'm not saying that It's better. I'm kind of handicapped if I come under fire. And up until recently I couldn't do much against machines." She grins mischievously, "But if you want to know something cool. That has changed." She reaches into her bag and pulls out some old scrolls. "I finally figured this one out!"

The scroll she hands over speaks of a move called Sapith Sundering. It shows an ancient depiction of a user punching through a massive barrier. Then there's another depiction showing them melting an object with their hand.

Breela continues as you look, "Now I just need to try it out."

"It's a status symbol no matter which side of the Force you walk. Especially one you make yourself, you never forget your first."

Aphr looked down at her side, her saber hidden under her cloak but she always knew where it was.

"I've never really trained to fight though. It wasn't what I needed to do when I was growing up, and even in the years since I left Nar Shaddaa I found more use for the other parts of the force."

She looked at the scroll, a tilt of her head.

"Who needs a saber indeed if you can punch through everything with your fists."
