[Day 5 - MA] Break on Through

Event Type: Main Story
Participants: Five
Timeslots: Mid Afternoon

Description: The players must delay Vaylin... no matter the cost.

Rules: Each Player makes a Fear 5 check at the start of the scene.

The Force Prodigy: If Vaylin is engaged in combat with a combat skill check and that player rolls a Despair or three threat they suffer 12 wounds with Pierce 4 from a Force based counterattack this can be Reflected, for attacks Vaylin is considered Adversary 6 and Defense 3, so upgrade accordingly.

Critical Injury cost two extra advantage to generate on Vaylin.

The Event is divided into rounds and the players must delay as long as they can and accrue at least 20 Delay Points, Vaylin generates Breakthrough points and if she gets to 25 she gets through. Players get 1 point for each successful skill check or attack, Triumphs can be used to generate 3 Delay points. Generating a Critical Injury on Vaylin generates 2 Delay points, no need to roll the Critical Injury, effects will not matter.

The Diversion: Each round each player may make a single skill check from the list (Athletics, Computers, Coordination, Leadership, Mechanics, Perception, Skullduggery, Stealth, Vigilance) and although skills can be repeated no single player can repeat a single skill meaning if Player A used Mechanics in round 1 they cannot use Mechanics again for the rest of the encounter until they use every other skill, but another player could use Mechanics. A successful skill check generates 1 Delay point. If a Player somehow ends up using every listed skill then they can repeat a skill.

Darkest Hour: The difficulty for non-combat skill checks is Hard, with two setback one for Vaylin's presence and another for the vergence effects. Power does not apply but the the roll is upgraded twice for the check. A player can increase the difficulty by one to Daunting and earn an extra Delay point on the roll, this must be called before making the roll. The base difficulty is then 2eC+1eD+2es if going for the extra point then it is 2eC+2eD+2eS.

A Despair rolled on the skill check adds 1 Breakthrough point to Vaylin.

Force Users can make a Discipline + Force check to utilize a Force Power and must succeed and generate enough force to use that power to get the Delay points, still limited by the skill use rule in place. This is considered a combat skill check.

Objectives: If the players reach 20 delay points they hold Vaylin at bay long enough for Senya and her team to explore Nathema. If Vaylin gets 25 Breakthrough points before the players reach 20 then she cuts through them. At this point a single player can sacrifice themselves to delay long enough for the Nathema team to succeed. Otherwise she reaches them and will cut Senya down and interrupt the ritual.

Vaylin gains 2 break through points at the end of the round, and if no one is engaged with her she gains another 3 breakthrough points. At the end of the Round Vaylin will deal 13 wounds, Pierce 4, to all characters in the event and this can be Reflected; anyone at engaged takes 15 wounds breach 1 and it can be Parried.

As this is done in combat rounds, the players begin at Medium to Vaylin.

There was a disturbance in the Force. It seemed to swirl around the person who stood before them. A weaker mind might have succumbed to the sheer terror, but Jo'ren was either too stubborn or too stupid to care. Possibly both.

This would be a fight for the ages. Or he was about to get his arse handed to him. Either way he was all in. He held his lightsaber in a ready position.

A conversation with a ghost wandered through his memory briefly. The Darkness Before the Dawn.

Courage isn't being fearless. Courage is action in the face of, and dealing with great fear. Durasay was glad he had the helmet sealed on his armor. Sweat upon his brow, his breath was shallow, heart rate spiking.

He clutched the hilt of his lightsaber, gripping just a bit tighter.

Even with the presence of an old ally from Nar Shaddaa, Durasay knew fear. Yet he remained steadfast.

Zayne was typically not fear of death being an Jedi Executioner. He was one causing it in others. This situation did give him pause through. He was normally working alone, but the Battle of Alderaan and this battle, he was on a team. He needed to work with the team to give the other one enough time to finish the ritual at any cost.

"There is no contemplation, there is only duty." His said in a bit of a wavering voice.

Kat stood ready, lightsaber in hand. Its verdant green blade reflecting off of her battle armor.

Even in the face of danger, of something that could lead to her death, there was calm. Serenity. Fear did not touch her being, and her calm aura radiated from her to her companions.

Vaylin stabbed her lightsaber, the yellow blade easily cutting through the hull of the fighter it veered to the ground and exploded. The blossom of flames consuming her. She emerged unscathed pulling the flames and metal slag into a tight crumpled ball of molten slag to melt through the snow and ice.

“Savages,” she said as she approached at a lazy pace, “Fine what’s a few more minutes.”

OOC: Fifty five minutes and we will go with what we have, plus NPC sacrifice.

Bolstered by Her Royal Highness of Alderaan, Durasay was steeled. Hopefully after this was done, he would be able to shake hands with Jo'ren, now that he was closer to him in stature.

He would move to engage the woman, but not striking. Not yet. The Pantoran would act as a spearhead, and a rally point.

A broken astromech from the nearby shipwreck was an opportunity Kat saw, and quickly stepping forward to remove shrapnel from its manual restart sent it off towards Vaylin, slowing her just a couple of seconds to get it out of the way.

She felt a little sorry for the droid who's short-lived restarted life lasted only a few heartbeats, but it also gave them a small distraction to take advantage of.

Master Thy stayed calm and contemp;lative and focused on what was coming, but the dark side clouded everything in this place. So instead, she shook away the fog of doubt and used her saber to cause a collapse of a cavern pathway as the others engaged the powerful Zakuul Force User, in her failure to see what was coming she succeeded in aiding the others.

Task failed successfully.

Vaylin clashed with the heroes, though she was not the duelist her brothers were she was still very skilled with the lightsaber, her yellow blade finding weaknesses in their defenses and then exploiting them.

All the while flinging chucks of the cavern at those further away from her. This was a running battle, she would not stand still and smashed through the blockade Thy had created which bought the team more time.

"You will die here for nothing, savages," she said clashing with Durasay.

OOC: Those at Engaged take 15 wounds, Breach 1, and those at range, beyond Engaged suffer 13 wounds, Pierce 4 and she gains 2 Breakthrough points.

Round 2

If Vaylin is engaged in combat with a combat skill check and that player rolls a Despair or three threat they suffer 12 wounds with Pierce 4 from a Force based counterattack this can be Reflected, for attacks Vaylin is considered Adversary 6 and Defense 3, so upgrade accordingly.

Savages: As the team is halfway to victory Vaylin is enraged, increase the difficulty of all checks by one. So for Skill checks 3eC+2eD+2eS, includes Destiny increase. GM will flip Destiny for upgrade to player checks.

The green blade dance before her and Zayne as Vaylin pelted them with debris and slag from the crashed ships, taking away some of the worst hits to both of them. It was a show of Soresu's finest principles; applying the lightsaber for defense of not only the wielder but those around them.

She reached for a nearby panel that belonged to some old security system in this cave, probably installed years and years ago to lock off whatever was inside. But the controls and circuits were too frozen to budge.

"Vaylin, you don't have to do this," she said calmly, focusing back on the angry young woman in front of them, in the hopes that this didn't need to end in pain and bloodshed.

The Pantoran brought an armored gauntlet up to intercept the blade, wincing at the impact as he felt himself pushed down into the ground. Durasay swung back, the swing of his own saber accompanied by that unholy growl from the fuming blade.

The weapon imbued with his will, Durasay was connected in combat through the Force. The weapon was merely an extension of his will, his strength. His blade clashing with Vaylin's, his swings more brute force than classical training, allowing him to get in.

Maneuver: Imbue Item (take 1 strain, commit 1 Force Die to reduce the critical rating of his Lightsaber by 1 (now needs 2 advantage against Vaylin)

Vaylin is surprised at the savage and his attacks putting her on the back foot. She has to give ground and hissed in pain, rubbing a bit of blood from her lips. “You will pay for that, savage!”

She renewed her ferocity.

Both blades clashed and energy crackled. The big Sith couldn't seem to land a blow, but as Vaylin parried him and sneered, Jo'ren was carving up the ice around her feet with the opposite blade of his lightsaber.

Three was an almighty CRACK and Vaylin started to slip into the hole, buying them some time.
