[Day 4 - MA] Fatal Rescue (Challenge)

by Dapper Dog
One of the Imperial patrols was running late and now got caught in the storm, they have requested aid but it will be dangerous because the conditions are brutal. Cutting winds, constant white out conditions, extreme cold are just some of the issues they will face.

Get to the downed shuttle and rescue the patrol!

Players should decide if taking a ship or going by tauntaun or land vehicle; the group should not be split as that is dangerous out in this storm. So choose one or the other; travel by ship or tauntaun/small vehicles.

OOC: This challenge requires 5 successful checks out of 7, and is affected by Power and the weather conditions. Players can utilize the following skills; Athletics, Cool, Coordination, Discipline, Leadership, Mechanics, Medicine, Piloting Planetary, Piloting Space, Resilience, or Survival.

If going by ship someone must roll Piloting Space, if by other means then someone must roll Piloting Planetary or Survival.

GM will flip Destiny to upgrade the difficulty by one. Currently 3eD+1eC+3eS with all modifiers applied.

Durasay operated on the belief that no one on a mission would be left behind. His armor covering himself, the Pantoran, former Captain of the defense forces and expedition to Bankor, steeled himself.

Turtle was primed and ready for rescue. Back up from its...rather harsh entrance to Hoth.

Maybe one of the more unusual passengers, Aphr had heard about the rescue of Imperial patrols and surprisingly volunteered to join. At least she wouldn't need to fly this time, and she had seen Nudimsu fly before

If it was about rescue operations in the snow from downed passengers, Aurilie was in! She admittedly had some stake in this, some bad memories and failed expectations that continue to bother her to this day...

Hacha shakes his head. "We need to start charging if we keep getting hauled out here to help"

"Well, let's make sure this thing isn't going to be shut down by the cold"

Hacha goes through his system diagnostics, making sure that everything is running as it should. Or at least he tries to.

"Man, why couldn't we have taken the Turtle"

Fatal Rescue Challenge-Mechanics-Dapper Difficulty set: 4eP+2eA+1eB+3eD+1eC+3eS 1 successes, 1 advantage

Durasay was not worried at all. He was a man born on an icy moon, orbiting a death world similar to Hoth.

The cold never bothered him anyway.

The suit, perfectly sealed, as they drove along in the Hare allowed him to study the logistics and technical readouts of the orders given to the patrol.

But it was by the will of the Force that he succeeded on this roll.

MA4 - Fatal Rescue - Roll 2/7 - Leadership (Hydroponics, Cold Weather Adaption, Thermal Vacuum Sealed Suit): 2eP+2eA+2eB+1eC+2eD+2eF 1 advantage, 1 Light Side, 1 Dark Side

Converting the Light Side Pip to a Success. Setbacks dropped by Commanding Presence, Cold Weather Adaptation (species ability), Thermal Unit in Armor

Final Outcome: 1 success, 1 advantage
2/5 rolls passed, 5 roll remaining

Aphr for her part ensured that all communications was followed, and they found the perfect way to go. However fate may have a funny way of taking that...

success, a despair for the Dapper to use

3/5 rolls passed

While it was total whiteout conditions, that didn't impede Aurilie very much and she got to trailblazing to find the survivors! The prince disappeared into the snow headlong at first before she lit up a flare, waving to her companions. This way!

Day 4, Mid Afternoon, Event - Fatal Rescue: Survival with Adverse Environment Gear, Thermal Cloak, Knife, Hydroponics. Setbacks gone!: 3eP+1eB+2eD+1eS 1 success, 4 advantage

In search and rescue conditions such as these, it was important to keep a level head. Durasay was always one to stay cool.

Ice. Cold.

MA4 - Fatal Rescue - Roll 5/7 - Cool (Hydroponics, Cold Weather Adaption, Thermal Vacuum Sealed Suit, boost from previous roller): 1eP+3eA+1eB+1eC+2eD 1 success, 3 advantage

The shuttle was half buried in the snow, but oddly as they got closer they saw smoke rising and twisting in the white out conditions only as they got closer did they realize that the shuttle had been damaged, it had taken a very severe blow from some serious ordinance.

The main entry was mangled and parts were fused to the frame, they saw two bodies lying in the snow. Burned and mangled, Snow covering much of their now freezing bodies.

The group can make out a smell of leaking fuel and felt heat coming from the interior of the craft. They here banging on a shuttle wall from the inside… it’s faint through the thick material siding and the howling winds.

OOC: Despair used.

Durasay was already out of the speeder as they got close. His lightsaber ignited, the yellow blade a sharp glow against the white out conditions.

"Hold on!" Even with the smell of burning fuel, he couldn't risk anyone being trapped inside. He trusted himself. He trusted his armor.

He trusted in the Force.

This was a risky thing to do, but someone could use help.

"Back away, I'm gonna cut you out!"

"No, don't cut it open with that-"

Hacha is cut off by Dursay's determination, and instead looks over wincing at the bodies on the ground.

"You're going to need some metal on you I bet, but let's see if we can get you to live that long"

He groaned about as Durasay did something risky and emotional. It was who he was, even as he knew him as a young man. Always leaping about in danger, never taking into considerations the calculated risk and lept with crazed emotions for the wellbeing of others, rather than the risks he would take along wit him.

It was annoying. Admirable, but annoying. "Don't risk it any more than you have to." Not like anything he would say was gonna stop him.

Aphr squinted to try and see what Durasay was doing. She wasn't going to jump out after him, it was cold enough in the base as it was.

"If you start hearing bangs you're gonna have to speed away pretty sharpish" she said to Nudimsu.

Durasay braced himself with his armor, and with a flourish, he brought the yellow blade into the hull, steam hissing off the superheated blade as snow collided into it, and the noxious yellow vapor that always trailed seemed to mix with the massive storm around them.

Hopefully they heard.

Hopefully when they saw the blade cut in they backed away.

Hopefully he wasn't anywhere near the fuel line.

Maneuver: bracing with Supreme Armor Master
Action: performing an emergency door incision with a lightsaber!

MA4 - Fatal Rescue - Cutting open the Shuttle (Brawn 4, Lightsaber 2, Hard Difficulty, Superior (+1 advantage), +1eS fuel line, -1eS Custom Grip, Player Destiny): 3eP+1eA+3eD 2 successes, 2 advantage, 1 Triumph
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

The blade almost seems to let out an unholy hiss as it bites into the plating of the shuttle. His hands steady as he cut down the side of the hull, then another vertical cut, before crossing an X to kick in the new opening. Whether guided by Destiny or his own skill, it seemed things were a success.

Using the Triumph to make sure that those inside the shuttle heard his warning over the storm and got away from the cutting blade.

Aurilie grimaced as the blade touched the shuttle. It was an effortless weapon but it made her uneasy about what it could do on the other side. It could be a scalpel or a hammer, as any weapon could be in this situation. However, they didn't exactly have a lot of options.

Inside they find a trio of Imperial soldiers thankful to be alive as the inside is burning.

The lightsaber snapped shut and was quickly replaced at this waist. "We've got a Speeder, run, get to the speeder!" His armored hand was extended to the crew, assisting where he could.

They rush to the speeder, as the shuttle explodes behind them because cool guys don't look at explosions.
